"the height of hypocrisy"
"Our government... declaring war on a country that is headed by a dictator no different than countless other dictators we have supported. We are now prepared to bomb a country for allegedly using chemical weapons against their own people, never mind this was a region already under control of that government. Yet we supported the dictator in Iraq during the time he used chemical weapons against Iran - and we did nothing, said nothing.
Our government clearly cares nothing for the Syrian Christians who face certain genocide should the rebels take Syria.
We claim we want Egypt to become a democratic government all the while helping the rebels to turn Syria into an Islamic state.
... This is the height of hypocrisy!"

P.S. I'm very a-political person and usually go for weeks without looking at the news. But these days I'm just glued to watching those headlines.

Murakami
Kenzaburo Oe has said that "Murakami writes in Japanese, but his writing isn't really Japanese . . . it can be read very naturally in New York." (source)
He may be right, but this doesn't make sense:
"Japanese literati have derided Murakami, who lived outside of Japan for much of two decades, as being Americanized or as pandering his style to an American audience." (same source)
So, if his writing has been affected by the West and "isn't really Japanese" - why is that necessarily bad?
The thing that bothers me a bit in Murakami's writing is that he's increasingly more and more into sex. While that's important part of life, there's just too much of an accent on that in his books - such as "1Q84". If I didn't believe in Murakami's genius, I'd think it's a (dirty) marketing move.
